whale party

I had a baby whale and a large humpback whale in our backyard pool.

It was amazing to have them both just majestic and accessible.

I didn’t intend to trap them or keep them forever.

There was a party going on. People were having fun.

It slowly started to dawn on me that the water was not salt and that would soon be a major problem for these ocean dwellers. Simultaneously I realized that the large whale could hardly navigate or stretch out.

The pool was much deeper and bigger than our actual pool but it was still small in comparison to a humpback.

I started to feel really bad about it and started to try figure out how i’d get them safely back to the ocean where they could be free.

I started puzzling over how i got them there in the first place and started to imagine the lengths I’d need to go to in order to return them to their ocean home.

An immense guilt and sense of doom was weighing on me, thinking there was no way I would ever be able to explain this to the authorities or even my friends for that matter.

I’d be going to prison for the abuse of animals and woke feeling terrible about the lives of these whales whom I was dooming to death over what I could only assume was blind desire to OWN them.

awake. relief washed over me.
